Lisa Johnson

Director

Lisa has a degree in Environmental Sciences and an MSc in Atmospheric Science. She has extensive experience in the higher education and environmental research sectors, providing strategic leadership, project management and research impact and innovation services. She has a reputation for providing strong and positive team leadership ensuring efficient and effective project delivery.

She has particular expertise in analysing and synthesising climate and marine science for policy and societal impact. She has successfully worked with public and private sector clients across the UK and Ireland delivering high quality and high impact project outputs.

Sian Atkinson

Sian Atkinson

Senior Associate, Woodland Ecology

Sian is a passionate conservationist with in-depth knowledge of ancient and native woodland ecology and management, and systems for creating new native woodlands and expanding native tree cover, based on over 30 years working in practical site management, evidence and policy, and providing advice to others in managing their land. She is an experienced team leader, line manager and facilitator, having led teams over two decades, and has experience of developing and delivering both practical and research-based projects. Sian also has extensive experience in partnership work and influencing and is an able communicator with the ability to flex to a variety of audiences.

Rossa Gibbons

Senior Associate, Forestry

Rossa is a forester, tree surgeon and West Cork farmer, with an MSc in Forestry from Bangor University. He received his first Afforestation Premium Grant when he was 25 years old and has been planting a mix of native trees on his land in stages, including oak, birch, hazel and walnut. Sheep graze between the trees, helping to establish them and adding to the nutrient value of the soil. Rossa possesses a deep knowledge of and passion for trees, agroforestry systems, woodland biodiversity and forest management practices.

Dr Martin Johnson

Director

Martin has a degree in Environmental Sciences and a PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry. He has extensive expertise in theoretical and applied marine research including in marine carbon dioxide removal technologies and associated risks, aquaculture systems development and environmental impacts of aquaculture, autonomous observing systems and marine chemistry.

He has a strong reputation for rigorous thinking and application of numerical and statistical models to solve problems. With a background in observation-based research, he is able to translate problems across the ‘data-model divide’ and generate novel and valuable insights. He is an author on more than 30 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 3 patents.

Beatriz Contreras

Beatriz Contreras

Senior Associate, Ecology and GIS

Beatriz holds a PhD in Conservation and a diploma in GIS and Remote Sensing. She is a highly experienced ecologist and has worked across several forest ecosystems, including cloud, rain, and deciduous tropical forests, as well as UK native woodlands and conifer plantations. With a strong focus on field surveys and data analysis, she understands how environmental variables influence plant and animal ecology, and how habitat degradation and disturbance changes species composition, in turn modifying ecological functions, and how land land-use hange impacts on ecological interactions and landscape dynamics. Beatriz also has strong analytical skills including current remote sensing and GIS techniques.

Ollie Legge

Ollie Legge

Senior Associate, Marine Science

Ollie has a degree in Oceanography and a PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry. He has extensive lab, field and research experience, including observational measurements of the marine and atmospheric carbon cycle. He has coordinated impactful projects in both research and voluntary sectors and is an author on several peer-reviewed publications. He is a qualified Forest School leader and has successfully delivered a wide range of youth and community activities in the outdoor environment with vulnerable client groups.
